Specialist Beam Restoration in Sussex

Bespoke Beams provides specialist beam restoration in Sussex, alongside oak beam renovation and beam lightening for homeowners with dark, heavily finished or dated beams.

We also renovate and restore beams in Potton homes, where exposed timber frames are often a defining feature of the property.

We use a mess-free, non-abrasive approach designed to lighten and update the appearance of existing timber without the disruption associated with traditional blasting methods.

Our work is particularly suited to period cottages, farmhouses, barn conversions, listed buildings and other character properties where exposed beams form an important part of the home.

What a great job completed by the duo.No mess ,and a fantastic result. As with previous reviews ,our centuries old beams have been restored to their former glory despite numerous coats of paint including the dreaded black gloss. I cannot recommend Bespoke Beams more highly. David arrived on Monday. Explained what he was going to do and then set to work. There was very little mess and we all said that David was lovely to have around! Our beams have been transformed in 3 days and our rooms look bigger and brighter. I could not be happier with them. Do not sandblast! Use Bespoke Beams, your beams will thank you. These guys have transformed our 17th century cottage.

The process from start to finish has been absolutely seamless and we cannot fault the customer service we received and the quality of the work carried out- we are beyond thrilled with the results! On the day the team text us to let us know they were on their way and nearby and arrived at the time we had agreed. The team themselves couldn’t have been friendlier or more professional- they took the time to explain the process and provide patch tests for us to choose our desired colour/finish and left absolutely no mess. They were very upbeat throughout the day, great to chat with and a pleasure to have in our home! Our house now feels so much lighter and brighter. The original beams were covered in a thick layer of black paint and now they are a gorgeous oak colour- exactly what we were after! I would highly recommend Bespoke Beams to anyone thinking of having this done. Thank you again!

Extremely neat, tidy, quick and efficient. We've had a lot of tradesmen in over the past couple of years and it's a relief to find a team being so professional. The beams look great, very happy with the end result. Will be using them again when finishing off other rooms.

Restoring Beams in Sussex Homes

Across Sussex, we work with homeowners in cottages, farmhouses, barn conversions and other period properties where dark exposed beams can dominate the room. Paint, heavy stains and older finishes can make the timber feel much darker than the rest of the interior, particularly in rooms with lower ceilings or limited natural light.

For homeowners considering oak beam renovation in Sussex, our approach provides a way to update existing beams without aggressive blasting, while retaining their character and minimising disruption inside the home.

We work across East and West Sussex, including Hastings, Battle, Rye, Eastbourne, Lewes, Brighton, Horsham, Arundel, Petworth and Chichester.

Our Process

1. Get in Touch

Get in touch and tell us about your property, your existing beams and the look you would like to achieve. Photos can also help us understand their current condition and appearance.

2. We Assess Your Beams

We consider the existing timber, its condition and the result you would like before recommending the most suitable approach and providing a quotation.

3. Choose Your Finish

You can discuss the colour and tone you want for the finished beams, helping achieve a natural result that suits the character and style of the room.

4. We Carry Out the Work

Our specialist process is designed to minimise disruption in furnished and decorated homes. The time required will depend on the number, size and condition of the beams being renovated.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does beam restoration cost in Sussex?

The cost of beam restoration depends on the number and size of the beams, their existing condition and the finish you want to achieve. There is no single price that applies to every property. Send us details and photographs of your beams and we can advise on the next step and provide a quotation.

How long does oak beam renovation take?

Most rooms can be completed within a single day, although timings depend on the number, size and condition of the beams. We can give you a clearer indication once we have assessed the beams in your Sussex property.

Do I need to empty the room before the work starts?

Not usually. Smaller items, valuables and soft furnishings should be moved where practical, but larger furniture can often remain in the room if properly protected. Because our process is designed to minimise mess and disruption, preparation is generally much less extensive than it would be for traditional blasting methods.

Do I need listed building consent for beam renovation in Sussex?

If your property is listed, it is important to check whether consent is required before work begins. This can depend on the building and the nature of the proposed work, so it is best to confirm with the relevant local authority or conservation officer. Once that is clear, we can discuss the most suitable approach for your beams.

Transform the Beams in Your Sussex Home

If dark or heavily finished beams are affecting the look of your home, Bespoke Beams can help you achieve a lighter, more natural finish without the mess associated with traditional blasting.
